Chairperson Geneva Robinson called the meeting to order and welcomed those in attendance at 4:35pm.

Mr. Thompson provided the Invocation.

A moment of silence was taken to remember and reflect on the life of Mr. Noel “Andy” Anderson. Mr. Anderson passed away on April 27, 2016 at the age of 91.  He was a member of our Board (and its predecessor agencies) for over 32-years before retiring in January 2014.  He was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent Award by Senator Larry Martin, on behalf of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, in April 2014.

There was no public present.

Chairperson Ms. Robinson turned the meeting over to Director Allen for his report.

Director Allen informed the Board of the pay increase the State Elections Office has given to all poll clerks and poll managers working the elections. The pay for working on each election day was increased from $60 to $75, a $15 total increase.

Director Allen stated the last day to register to be eligible to vote in the June Primary is May 14, 2016. The office will be open to the public that day from 8am to Noon for anyone wishing to register to vote, and in office absentee voting will be open May 16, 2016.

Director Allen reminded board members of their duties on election day, and asked that if two would be available to assist with opening the mailed absentee on June 14, 2016 at 9am. Ms. Robinson and Ms. Weeks agreed to assist with the absentee. Mr. Allen mentioned all other important upcoming dates to remember which were as follows: June 16, 2016 Election Certification Hearing, June 28, 2016 Runoff Election, and June 301, 2016 Runoff Election Certification Hearing.

Director Allen stated that the Six Mile Special Election may or may not happen on June 21, 2016. Mr. Allen explained that we will not know officially until Monday, May 9, 2016 in accordance with SC Code of Laws 7-13-190(E).

Director Allen noted that the State will not be getting new voting machines at this time. The state legislature chose not to fund the SEC’s request for new voting machines. We will simply keep using what equipment we have.

Director Allen suggested to the Board that we cancel the upcoming June 7, 2016 regular scheduled meeting because of it being so close to the June 14, 2016 Primary Election. The office will be in full final preparation mode at that time. Mr. Thompson made motion to cancel June 7, 2016 regular scheduled meeting. Ms. Chapman seconded the motion. All in favor and with no discussion was passed unanimously. Mr. Allen turned meeting back over to Ms. Robinson.

Ms. Robinson asked was there any Old or New Business.

Old Business: Ms. Robinson stated that she had not heard from Interim Administrator Tom Hendricks, and that she was still waiting to hear from him about the relocation of voting equipment and supplies.

There was no New Business.

Ms. Robinson asked for motion to be made to go into executive session to discuss a personnel matter. Ms. Weeks made motion to go into executive session. Ms. Chapman seconded the motion. All in favor and with no discussion the board went into executive session at 4:50pm.

During executive session no votes were taken. Ms. Robinson asked for motion to be made to adjourn. Ms. Weeks made motion to adjourn. Mr. Thompson seconded the motion. All in favor and with no discussion the meeting was adjourned at 5:13pm.
