Notice of Special Election for Liberty City Council Ward 2

On May 2, 2016, Liberty City Council Ward 2 Member Lisa Hunter submitted her resignation from Liberty City Council. In accordance with SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E) and 8-1-145, a special election shall be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 to fill her unexpired term on Liberty City Council Ward 2. This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.

Registered voters who have lived in and have been a resident of this municipality for a period of not less than 30 days immediately preceding the date of this election and resident of Liberty City Council Ward 2 may file as a candidate beginning at Noon on Friday, May 20, 2016 until filing closes at Noon on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Candidates will file with the City Clerk at Liberty City Hall (206 W Front St. Liberty, SC 29657) during normal business hours of M-F 8AM-5PM (closed 12:00pm to 1:00pm for lunch). At the time of filing, each candidate must complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form and pay the filing fee of twenty-five dollars ($25).

Candidates are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests and a Campaign Disclosure online with the State Ethics Commission at http://ethics.sc.gov. Failure to file these documents may result in a candidate fine but will not disqualify a candidate from the election. Contact the State Ethics Commission for more information.

In accordance with SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E), no special election shall be held if only one candidate files during the filing period and no person has filed a written declaration to be a write-in candidate with the City Clerk by Noon on Tuesday, June 14, 2016.

Every person offering to vote in this Special Election must be duly registered on the County Books of Registration, as an elector and a resident of the City of Liberty, 30 days prior to the date of election. The last day to register to vote (or update your voter registration information) for this Special Election will be Saturday, June 25, 2016.

The following Pickens County precincts and polling places will be open from 7:00am until 7:00pm:

128 Rices Creek – Liberty First Baptist Church – 403 Edgemont Ave. Liberty, SC 29657

129 West Liberty – Calumet Baptist Church – 400 S Peachtree St. Liberty, SC 29657

130 East Liberty – Eastside Baptist Church – 920 Anderson Dr. Liberty, SC 29657

155 North Liberty – Liberty United Methodist Church – 310 Mae St. Liberty, SC 29657

The processing of absentee ballots will begin at 9:00am on election morning, July 26, 2016, in the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Pickens County in the Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave. Pickens, SC 29671.

The provisional ballot hearing and canvass for this Municipal Election will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 9:00am in the County Council Chambers inside the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave. Pickens, SC 29671.

Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballot application requests can be made by going to our website: https://pickenselections.org/absentee-application-request/

A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, August 9, 2016.
