THIS MEETING OF THE PICKENS COUNTY REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION WAS HELD PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT AND ALL REQUIRED NOTIFICATIONS WERE MADE.

Chairperson Campbell called the meeting of the Pickens County Registration and Elections Commission to order at 4:30pm and welcomed everyone.

Mr. Thompson gave the invocation.

Chairperson Campbell asked for a motion to be made to approve meeting minutes from the May 6, 2014 Registration and Elections Commission meeting. Ms. Chapman made motion to accept meeting minutes as they were presented. Ms. Weeks seconded the motion. All in favor and with no discussion was passed unanimously.

No public was present.

Ms. Campbell turned the meeting over to Director Allen for his report. Director Allen gave an update for the upcoming June 10, 2014 Primary Election; all election workers have attended three hours of training and now are assigned a polling location. The number of rovers (polling location technicians) normally used during an election by the county is thirteen, but the state only reimburses for nine. The Registration and Elections Commission was informed that we are to use only the number allowed by the state for reimbursement. Director Allen explained the duties of a rover are to delivery supplies to each assigned polling location and to meet with the clerk to help setup voting machines, assist with opening and closing polls, and assist throughout election day. Director Allen stated that in compliance with state law (one voting machine per every 250 voters) has been prepared and ready for use during the June Primary Election. Director Allen announced that all laptops are prepared and secured; and that the Registration and Elections Commission office is ready for the June 10, 2014 Primary Election.

Director Allen stated that the new election law was signed by the Governor on June 2, 2014 was now in effect. The State Election Commission will now supervise all County Registration and Elections Commission offices. The State Election Commission will divide the state into regions and there will be one person to oversee that particular area of the state. The negative to the new law is no funding for county offices for additional staff.

Director Allen stated that concluded his report, and tuned the meeting back over to Ms. Campbell.

Chairperson Campbell asked if there was any old or new business.

Old Business was as follows:

1.)    Director Allen stated that we will need four Commissioners here Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 9am the morning of the election to count absentee ballots.  Ms. Campbell asked that the office check with the other Commissioners to see who will be available to come that morning. Director Allen asked that all Commissioners be here at 6:00pm election night.

There was no new business.

Chairperson Campbell asked that a motion be made for meeting to be adjourned. Mr. Thompson made motion for meeting to adjourn. Ms. Weeks seconded the motion. All in favor and with no discussion meeting was adjourned at 5:45pm.
