Today, March 30, 2012, Clemson Mayor Elect JC Cook submitted his resignation from Clemson City Council.  You may view his resignation letter HERE.

In accordance with SC Code of Laws 5-7-200(b) and 7-13-190, a special election shall be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 to fill his unexpired term on Clemson City Council which ends December 2012. This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.  A runoff election, if necessary, will be held on July 10, 2012.

Registered voters who have lived in and have been a resident of this municipality for a period of not less than 6-months immediately preceding the date of this election may file as a candidate beginning at Noon on Friday, April 20, 2012 until filing closes at Noon on Monday, April 30, 2012. Candidates will file with the City Clerk at the Clemson City Hall (1250 Tiger Blvd. Ste. 1 Clemson, SC 29631) during normal business hours. At the time of filing, each candidate must complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form, pay the filing fee and present proof that they have filed their Statement of Economics Interests form online at the SC State Ethics Commission website (

In accordance with SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E), no special election shall be held if only one candidate files during the filing period and no person has filed a written declaration to be a write-in candidate with the City Clerk by Noon on Monday, May 14, 2012.
