Notice of Special Election for the Town of Six Mile

This notice is to the voters in the Town of Six Mile, South Carolina that a Special Election will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 to fill the unexpired term of Roy Stoddard, recently elected to the office of Mayor. This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.

Residents of the Town of Six Mile desiring to be candidates for the above listed office may file at the Six Mile Town Hall (106 S. Main St. Six Mile, SC 29682) during normal business hours Monday through Friday (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with the Town Clerk during the filing period. Books will be open for filing starting at Noon on Friday, December 2, 2011 and remain open during regular business hours until Noon on Monday, December 12, 2011. At the time of filing, each candidate must pay a filing fee, complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form and present proof that they have filed their Statement of Economics Interests form online at the SC State Ethics Commission website (http://ethics.sc.gov). The filing fee will be $15.

SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E) provides that, for special elections, no election shall be held for an office if the same number of candidates file as seats to fill and no person has filed a declaration to be a write-in candidate with the Town Clerk within 14-days after the close of the filing period.

Every person offering to vote in this Special Election must be duly registered on the County Books of Registration for Pickens County, as an elector and a resident of the Town of Six Mile, thirty days prior to the date of election. The last day to register to vote (or update your voter registration information) for this Special Election will be Saturday, January 7, 2012. To register to vote in Pickens County or update your address and/or other voter registration information:

  •  Visit the Office of the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission at 222 McDaniel Ave B-9 Pickens, SC 29671. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5:00pm., or
  • Visit our website: https://pickenselections.org/ , download, complete, and print the voter registration application, and either:
    • Mail the application to the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission at 222 McDaniel Ave B-9 Pickens, SC 29671. (must be postmarked by January 7th), or
    • Fax the application to the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission at 864-898-5637 (must be received by January 7th), or
    • Scan the application and email the image as a file attachment to the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission at the following email address: staceyf@co.pickens.sc.us (must be received by January 7th).

The following precincts and polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.:

The processing of absentee ballots will begin at 9:00am on election morning, February 7, 2012, in the Office of the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission in the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.

The provisional ballot hearing and canvass for this Special Election will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 9:00am in the Registration and Elections Office inside the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.

Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballot application requests can be made by going to our website: https://pickenselections.org/absentee-application-request/

A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, February 21, 2012.
