Town of Norris Public Notice of Municipal Election

This notice is to the voters in the Town of Norris, South Carolina that their Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.  This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.  The following offices shall be included in this election:

Mayor (1-Seat)

* City Council (2-Seats)

Residents of the Town of Norris desiring to be candidates for one of the above listed offices may file at the Norris Town Hall (100 E. Jamison St Norris SC  29667) during normal business hours Monday through Friday (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with the Town Clerk during the filing period.    Books will be open for filing starting at Noon on Thursday, August 18, 2011 and remain open during regular business hours until Noon on Thursday, September 1, 2011.  At the time of filing, each candidate must complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form, pay the filing fee, and present proof that they have filed their Statement of Economics Interests form online at the SC State Ethics Commission website (http://ethics.sc.gov).  The filing fees are: $20 for Mayor and $10 for City Council.

SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E) provides that, for municipal elections, no election shall be held for an office if the same number of candidates file as seats to fill and no person has filed a declaration to be a write-in candidate with the Town Clerk within 14-days after the close of the filing period. 

Every person offering to vote in this Municipal Election must be duly registered on the County Books of Registration for Pickens County, as an elector and a resident of the Town of Norris, thirty days prior to the date of election.  The last day to register to vote (or update your voter registration information) for this Municipal Election will be Saturday, October 8th, 2011. 

The following precincts and polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.:

112 – Norris – Norris Town Hall – 100 E. Jamison St Norris SC  29667

The processing of absentee ballots will begin at 9:00am on election morning, November 8, 2011, in the office of the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission in the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.

The provisional ballot hearing and canvass for this Municipal Election will be held Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 9:00am in the County Council Chambers inside the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.

Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot.  Absentee ballot application requests can be made by going to our website:  https://pickenselections.org/absentee-application-request/

Absentee ballot application requests can also be made by calling 864-898-5948, sending an email to staceyf@co.pickens.sc.us, or by coming in-person to the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission in the Administrative Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.

A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
