City of Easley Public Notice of Municipal Election

This notice is to the voters in the City of Easley, South Carolina that their Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.  This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.  The following offices shall be included in this election:

* Mayor (1-Seat)

* City Council Ward 1 (1-Seat)

* City Council Ward 3 (1-Seat)

* City Council Ward 5 (1-Seat)

* Combined Utilities Commission (1-Seat)

Residents of the City of Easley desiring to be candidates for one of the above listed offices may file at the Easley City Hall (205 N. 1st St. Easley, SC 29640) during normal business hours Monday through Friday (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with the City Clerk during the filing period.    Books will be open for filing starting at Noon on Thursday, August 18, 2011 and remain open during regular business hours until Noon on Thursday, September 1, 2011.  At the time of filing, each candidate must complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form, pay the filing fee and present proof that they have filed their Statement of Economics Interests form online at the SC State Ethics Commission website (http://ethics.sc.gov).  The filing fees are: $720 for Mayor, $300 for City Council, and $300 for Combined Utilities Commission.

SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E) provides that, for municipal elections, no election shall be held for an office if the same number of candidates file as seats to fill and no person has filed a declaration to be a write-in candidate with the Town Clerk within 14-days after the close of the filing period. 

Every person offering to vote in this Municipal Election must be duly registered on the County Books of Registration for Pickens County, as an elector and a resident of the City of Easley, thirty days prior to the date of election.  The last day to register to vote (or update your voter registration information) for this Municipal Election will be Saturday, October 8th, 2011. 

The following Pickens County precincts and polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.:

135 Park Street – Senior Citizen Center – 401 Blair St. Easley, SC 29640

136 Simpson – Easley Union Baptist Church – 200 N. Pendleton St. Easley, SC 29640

137 Woodside – Jones Ave Baptist Church – 614 Ross Ave. Easley, SC 29640

138 Brushy Creek – Brushy Creek Baptist Church – 100 Clay St. Easley, SC 29640

139 Pickensville – First Baptist Church – 300 E. 1st Ave.  Easley, SC 29640

Additionally, all registered voters in the following Anderson County precincts who reside inside the City of Easley and are otherwise qualified are eligible to vote in this election at the polling place named below:

The processing of absentee ballots will begin at 9:00am on election morning, November 8, 2011, in the office of the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission in the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.

The provisional ballot hearing and canvass for this Municipal Election will be held Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 9:00am in the County Council Chambers inside the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.

Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot.  Absentee ballot application requests can be made by going to our website:  https://pickenselections.org/absentee-application-request/

A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
