THIS MEETING OF THE BOARD OF VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS OF PICKENS COUNTY WAS HELD PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT AND ALL REQUIRED NOTIFICATIONS WERE MADE.
Chairperson Geneva Robinson called the meeting to order with a welcomed those in attendance at 4:30pm.
Ms. Bowers provided the Invocation.
Ms. Robinson asked for a motion to be made to approve meeting minutes from July 28, 2016. Ms. Chapman made motion to approve the minutes. Ms. Bowers seconded the motion. All in favor and with no discussion was passed unanimously.
There was no public present.
Ms. Robinson turned meeting over to Director Allen for his report.
Director Allen thanked everyone for being here today, and stated the Statewide General Election is only 34 days away. Mr. Allen also stated that the voter registration deadline was coming up soon which will be this Saturday, October 8, 2016. Mr. Allen mentioned the office would be open Saturday from 8am until 12 Noon to the public for voter registration and absentee voting. Mr. Allen announced we are receiving approximately 750 to 1,000 registrations per week. Voter Registration sustained about a 5% total net increase. The large amounts of applications are being received from the DMV, the League of Women Voters (voter drives), and Facebook/online registration. Mr. Allen stated that the office is in good shape, testing is almost finished; and that we will be receiving a new EVRL (Electronic Voter Registration List) software for laptops. Voter turnout will be approximately 80%, so long lines are expected. Mr. Allen mentioned there was a good possibility the office will be opening on November 5, 2016 from 9am-1pm for absentee voting. Mr. Allen stated he was trying to get more scanners from the State Election Commission for our poll managers to use on Election Day. Mr. Allen announced that the State Election Commission has increased security by using 2 factor authentications for VREMs (Voter Registration and Elections Management System). Mr. Allen reported that none of the voting equipment is connected to the internet, that all of Pickens County’s election offices are secure, and that the County’s IT Department/Administration are aware of all security requirements. Mr. Allen mentioned that all referendums had to pass three reading by August 15, 2016 deadline in order to be placed on the November, 2016 ballot. Mr. Allen stated all poll manager training is complete with exception to one make-up class scheduled for October 6, 2016. Director Allen turned meeting back over to Chairperson Robinson.
Chairperson Robinson asked if there were any old or new business. There were none.
Chairperson Robinson stated the next meeting will be held on November 11, 2016 at 9am in the Pickens County Administration Building Auditorium.
Chairperson Robinson asked for a motion to be for meeting to be adjourned. Ms. Bowers made a motion for meeting to be adjourned. Ms. Chapman seconded the motion. All in favor and with no discussion was passed unanimously.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:20pm.
