THE MEETING OF THE PICKENS COUNTY REGISTRATION AND ELECTION COMMISSION WAS HELD PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT AND ALL REQUIRED NOTIFICATIONS WERE MADE.

Chairperson Bowers called the meeting of the Pickens County Registration and Election Commission to order at 4:30 and welcomed everyone. Ms. Campbell gave the invocation.

Chairperson Bowers stated the first order of business was approval of minutes from September meeting. Ms. Robinson moved to accept minutes as presented. Mrs. Campbell seconded the motion and with no discussion was passed unanimously.

There was no public comment.

Chairperson Bowers turned the meeting over to Director Allen for his report. Director Allen stated that new voter registration cards are in the process of being delivered to registered voters.

With regard to the election in November, Director Allen discussed the situation with the precinct voting at the Presbyterian home. The Crestview precinct votes as Presbyterian Home but it is not inside the Crestview precinct; therefore, residents of the home technically cannot vote there. Director Allen has made adjustments to try to accommodate the voters, and permanent solution will be discussed at a later date.

Director Allen stated that multiple training days and times have been arranged for poll workers. Also, there is a need for additional poll workers to meet demand expected on Election Day. The county received 95 laptop computers from the SC State Election Commission to be used in this election, so each precinct will have at least one. Absentee ballots have been sent with a cost of about $2.00 per ballot through the ABS by mail service. In-office testing will be done tomorrow and the office hopes to open absentee voting by Monday, October 12, 2012. A notary will be needed at each precinct if the Voter ID Bill is passed.

It is to be noted the Dept. of Justice has pre-cleared online voter registration as of today.

Chairperson Bowers asked if there was any old business. There was none.

Chairperson Bowers asked if there was any new business. It was mentioned that there is a list of precincts still needing workers. The list was split among members to solicit workers.

Congratulations to Ms. Jane Weeks on the occasion of her recent marriage.

Ms. Geneva Robinson made motion to adjourn, and Ms. Goolsby seconded the motion. The motion to adjourn was unanimous.

Respectfully submitted by
Ms. Gretchen Campbell
