Notice of Election for City of Clemson

8/15/2012 Noon Update:

The same number of candidates filed as seats to fill for both municipal offices and no person filed with the Clemson City Clerk to be a write-in candidate for either position by Noon, August 15.  In accordance with SC Code of Law 7-13-190 (E), the municipal election for the City of Clemson has been canceled.  Neither municipal office shall appear on the ballots of the General Election.

In accordance with SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E), no election shall be held for either municipal office  unless a person has filed a written declaration to be a write-in candidate with the City Clerk by Noon on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.


7/12/2012 Original Post:

This notice is to the voters in the City of Clemson, South Carolina that their municipal election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.  The municipal election will be held concurrent with the Statewide General Election.  A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks later on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.  This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.  The following offices shall be included in this election:

  • Mayor (one seat to fill)
  • City Council (three seats to fill)

Registered voters who have lived in and have been a resident of this municipality for a period of not less than 6-months immediately preceding the date of this election may file as a candidate beginning at Noon on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 until filing closes at Noon on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Candidates will file with the City Clerk at the Clemson City Hall (1250 Tiger Blvd. Ste. 1 Clemson, SC 29631) during normal business hours.  At the time of filing, each candidate must pay the filing fee of ten dollars ($10) and turn in a paper copy (printout) of their Statement of Economics Interests (SEI) form (all pages) at the same time and with the same official that he/she files their printed Statement of Intention of Candidacy (SIC) form to be a candidate.

The Statement of Economics Interests form must be completed and filed online at the SC State Ethics Commission website (http://ethics.sc.gov) and printed out prior to appearing at the Clemson City Hall to file to be a candidate.  Neither the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission nor the City of Clemson can provide you with any advice or instructions on filing your Statement of Economics Interests Form and Campaign Disclosure Form with the SC Ethics Commission.  If you require assistance with filing ethics forms, you must contact the SC Ethics Commission directly at (803) 253-4192.

In accordance with SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E), no election shall be held if the same number of candidates file as seats to fill for any office during the filing period and no person has filed a written declaration to be a write-in candidate with the City Clerk by Noon on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.

Every person offering to vote in this election must be duly registered on the County Books of Registration, as an elector and a resident of the City of Clemson, 30 days prior to the date of election. The last day to register to vote (or update your voter registration information) for this municipal election will be Saturday, October 6, 2012.

The processing of absentee ballots will begin at 9:00am on election morning, November 6, 2012, in the Office of the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commissionin the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens, SC 29671.

The provisional ballot hearing and canvass for this municipal election will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 9:00am in the County Council Chambers inside the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.
