This notice is to the voters in the City of Clemson, South Carolina that a Special Election will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot. The following offices shall be included in this election:
- Mayor – unexpired term
Registered voters who have lived in and have been a resident of this municipality for a period of not less than 6-months immediately preceding the date of this election may file as a candidate beginning at Noon on Friday, March 2, 2012 until filing closes at Noon on Monday, March 12, 2012. Candidates will file with the City Clerk at the Clemson City Hall (1250 Tiger Blvd. Ste. 1 Clemson, SC 29631) during normal business hours. At the time of filing, each candidate must complete a Statement of Intention of Candidacy Form, pay the filing fee and present proof that they have filed their Statement of Economics Interests form online at the SC State Ethics Commission website (http://ethics.sc.gov).
In accordance with SC Code of Laws 7-13-190 (E), no special election shall be held if only one candidate files during the filing period and no person has filed a written declaration to be a write-in candidate with the City Clerk by Noon on Monday, March 26, 2012.
Every person offering to vote in this Special Election must be duly registered on the County Books of Registration for Pickens County, as an elector and a resident of the City of Clemson, 30 days prior to the date of election. The last day to register to vote (or update your voter registration information) for this Special Election will be Saturday, April 7th, 2012.
The following Pickens County precincts and polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.:

105 Calhoun – First Baptist Church – 397 College Ave. Clemson, SC 29631
106 Clemson II – Clemson Downs – 500 Downs Loop Clemson, SC 29631

The processing of absentee ballots will begin at 9:00am on election morning, May 8, 2012, in the Office of the Pickens County Registration & Elections Commission in the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens, SC 29671.
The provisional ballot hearing and canvass for this Municipal Election will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 9:00am in the County Council Chambers inside the Pickens County Administration Facility located at 222 McDaniel Ave, Pickens SC 29671.
Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballot application requests can be made by going to our website: http://pickenselections.org/absentee-application-request/

A runoff election, if necessary, will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
