On September 10th and 13th, 2010 Stacey Kitchens, Office Coordinator for the Pickens County Registration and Elections Commission, went to Easley High School and made presentations to Mr. Ben Massingill’s Government Classes. Mrs. Kitchens shared information with students regarding the responsibilities of the Registrations and Elections Commission, the responsibilities of poll managers, and regulations regarding exhibition and distribution of campaign materials around the polling precincts on Election Day. Students were also given the opportunity to practice using a voting machine through participation in a mock election. In this “election” students were polled about various topics, some of which included their favorite college football team, NASCAR driver, and favorite food at the Upper South Carolina State Fair. Students who were eligible to vote were registered to vote, and some students even applied to be poll managers for the up coming election to be held in November. We would like to express a special thank you to Mr. Ben Massingill for inviting us into his classroom.
