Candidate Filing Notice: 2009 Special Veterans Affairs Officer Advisory Election

A special advisory election will be held to fill the unexpired term of Pickens County Veterans Affairs Officer Rick Simmons on Saturday, October 3, 2009. Candidates may file for the office with the Pickens County Registration and Elections Commission (222 McDaniel Ave, County Administrative Building, Pickens) during normal working hours (8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday) beginning on Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 17, 2009. There will be a filing fee of Two Hundred Nine Dollars and Thirty-nine Cents ($209.39) to cover the cost of the election. Persons filing as a candidate must present proof of being a veteran with honorable separation (DD214 or Honorable Discharge papers) and proof of residency in Pickens County. If only one candidate files, no advisory election will be held and the filing fee will be refunded. Your Name on the Ballot:
SC law states that your name on the ballot may not imply professional or social status, an office or military rank. Your name may be your given name, a derivative of your given name used in good faith for honest purposes or a nickname which bears no relation to your given name but which is used in good faith for honest purposes and does not exceed 15 letters on the ballot.

Candidate Withdrawals – Refunds:
Candidates that come into the office & sign a document withdrawing as a candidate in the election by 5:00pm on Friday, July 17th 2009 will have their filing fee check returned to them and their names will not appear on the ballot. If a candidate withdraws after this time, the candidate will not receive a refund and their name will not be removed from the ballot. A notice shall be placed in the voting booth letting voters know the candidate has withdrawn.
